This is the second capital of Myanmar, which is now the cultural center since it was the last capital of Myanmar Kingdom. With a population of about one million, Mandalay is a trading center due to its strategic central location. Places of attraction in Mandalay are: Mahamuni Pagoda, the Golden Palace Monastry (Swenandaw), the Kuthodaw Pagoda which contains 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings and this is also known as the world’s largest book.
The Mandalay Palace, which was completely destroyed during World War II had been reconstructed in recent years. Excursion to a few significant nearby towns such as Mingun, Amarapura, Sagaing, Inwa, Pyin Oo Lwin and Padalin Cave are also quite popular. |
